What the customer needs to do before we arrive.
1. Remove all fabric items such as all bedding and sheets, clothing, curtains and shoes in the suspected infected rooms.
2. Be careful when taking off sheets and curtains, there maybe eggs on them that can fall off. Put items into double clear plastic bags, check to make sure there are no holes.
3. Wash all fabric items with the hottest setting in your washing machine and then tumble dry.
4. Items can be dry cleaned, the chemicals in the dry cleaning process kills bed bugs. Inform the dry cleaner there may be bed bugs or possible eggs in the bag
5. Vaccum clean all your carpets with a cheap vaccum cleaner be sure to thouroughly clean your vaccum cleaner after cleaning each indiviual room. As bed bugs and their eggs can be spread to a new room if the vaccum cleaner is not cleaned.
6. Items such as books and ornaments should be wrapped thoroughly in double clear plastic bags until the items can be inspected and treated. This will seal in any bed bugs and stops other bed bugs getting in.
7. Sealed up untreated items must remain sealed until treated for 18 months as bed bugs can survive without food for this long by slowing down thier metabloism.
8. Untreated items can either be stored or thorwn away.
9. A very effective method of treating a valuable item is to seal and store the item for up to two years in clear palstic bags.
10. For example a suspected ornament that would be difficult to treated with pesticide as the pesticide may not be able to penetrate deep into the item can be succesfully treated with a 100% gaurnteed just by leaving the item sealed for any possible bed bugs or eggs to die of starvation. It saves the person whos house is infested having to have the item dismanteld and treated with heat and pesticide which are not 100% gauranteed methods.
11. Purchase a mattress protector for your mattress and one for the bed base per bed. This stops bed bugs from getting into your bed and bed base and bed bugs from escaping. Treating a bed base and mattress is quite difficult so a mattress protector helps to defend against a bed bug infestation and easier to treat for a pest controller.
12. DO NOT REMOVE THE MATTRESS PROTECTOR FOR 18 MONTHS EVEN WHEN CLEANING IT.
The most effective treatment and prevention method is to permanently discard unnecessary items suspected of being infected in sealed plastic bags at your local dump.
